Only two years after the death of the inventor of the Draisine, the controllable walking machine from Drais von Sauerbronn, came another German with the brilliant idea to construct a bike with cranks and pedals to the driving wheel.

Philipp Moritz Fischer, an instrument maker from Oberndorf in Schweinfurt, was the man who made this major invention in 1853 and applied it on a bicycle with half-height front wheel and smaller rear wheel.
Fischer was born in 1812, so 41 years old, when he brought his machine into the open.
